Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a linear polymer, and the products are mainly divided into dry powder and colloid. According to their average molecular weight can be divided into low molecular weight (<1 million), medium molecular weight (200 to 4 million) and high molecular weight (> 7 million) three categories. According to its structure can be divided into non-ionic, anionic and cationic. Most of the anionic types are hydrolysates of PAM (HPAM). The polyacrylamide has a large number of amide groups in its main chain and has a high chemical activity. It can be modified to produce many derivatives of polyacrylamide. The products have been widely used in papermaking, beneficiation, oil extraction, metallurgy, building materials, sewage treatment, etc. industry. Polyacrylamide is used as lubricant, suspending agent, clay stabilizer, oil displacing agent, fluid loss agent and thickener in drilling, acidification, fracturing, water blocking, cementing, secondary oil recovery and tertiary oil recovery. Widely used, is an extremely important oil field chemical.
