Alkali recovery refers to the process of recovering the chemicals used for cooking from the waste liquor of alkaline pulping and cooking.
The process of processing the black liquor in the pulping process to recover chemicals and heat energy, and then for the process of pulp production. Referred to as alkali recovery. Black liquor is the alkaline solution of organic compounds such as lignin and sugar dissolved in the pulp and the residual cooking liquor separated from the pulp by cooking the vegetable fiber raw material into pulp.
Principle Alkali recovery is the basic principle of applying the Lübland alkali method. The organic compounds of sodium in black liquor are burned to sodium carbonate and the supplementary sodium sulfate (glauber's salt) is reduced to sodium sulfide. Sodium solution, or a mixture of sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide (commonly known as white liquor in the paper industry). The main chemical reactions in the alkali recovery process are as follows:

The main production technical index of the alkali recovery system is the alkali recovery rate. The calculation formula is the amount of thenardite that needs to be supplemented in the alkali recovery process to produce 1 ton of pulp commonly used in the world to express the efficiency of alkali recovery. The smaller the amount of supplemented thenardite, the higher the alkali recovery rate. A good alkali recovery system has an alkali recovery rate of more than 93% for wood pulp black liquor. To produce one ton of pulp, the amount of thenardite added during the alkali recovery process must be under 50kg.
Alkali recovery process Alkali recovery includes the basic processes of extracting black liquor from the pulp washing process, evaporating and concentrating the black liquor, burning the concentrated black liquor, dissolving and causticizing the melt, and recovering lime from the calcium carbonate produced by causticization.
Alkali recovery has become an indispensable part of the chemical pulp production process.
Because the black liquor contains a large amount of foaming substances, the uncontrolled foaming seriously affects the efficiency of alkali recovery. Therefore, the defoamer is needed in the alkali recovery section.
