Chemical Properties

Acidity: Comparable to hydrochloric and sulfuric acids but milder than nitric acid.
Stability: Stable in solid form but decomposes at high temperatures (>200°C) into sulfuric acid, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen gas.

• Reactivity:

  • Reacts with metals to form soluble salts (e.g., calcium sulfamate, iron sulfamate), with relatively low corrosivity.

  • Reacts with nitrites to release nitrogen gas, often used to eliminate nitrites.
