Methylene chloride Description

Dichloromethane, with the formula CH2Cl2, is a colorless, transparent and volatile organic compound with a distinct ether-like punchy odor. Its core properties include being slightly soluble in water, but soluble in a variety of organic solvents, such as ethanol and ether. At room temperature and pressure, dichloromethane is liquid, with a boiling point of 39.8ºC and a melting point of -97ºC, and a density of 1.325g/cm³. Due to its excellent solubility and relatively low toxicity, dichloromethane has shown a wide range of applications in a number of industrial fields. In the chemical industry, it is an important raw material for the manufacture of film, paint solvent, metal degreaser and many other products.
